Bug ID: 118100
Summary: VERSION: 5.3.0.3 0 Validity / List (Enhancement
Request - Global Updates / Autofill specific to Data
List
Product: LibreOffice
Version: 5.3.0.3 release
Hardware: All
OS: Linux (All)
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: medium
Component: Calc
Assignee: libreoffice-***@lists.freedesktop.org
Reporter: ***@centurylink.net

Description:
VERSION: 5.3.0.3

I really like, whether excel or LibreCalc the ability to expedite data entry.

And, I've noticed two problems with Validity / List that I haven't found any
answers for in looking (maybe I missed them).

1) If I leave something out in a list, it seems, I have to update the list, and
then update all the cells that that list applies to, then I have to update the
data in those cells after having updated the list.

If there's not a global option for updating a list's data after the fact,
that's a ROYAL pain. Once it works - GREAT. Having to go through the list
EACH time a change is made and update all the associated cells to reflect the
updated data in the list so that they're all current seems to me REALLY gets in
the way of using Validity / List as an option.

I would think the ability to apply changes to the list globally to all cells
affected by the data in that list would be REALLY nice.

I'm a pretty good typer and the lists haven't been too long, but, imagine a LOT
of data in a LOT of cells and I'm not sure "frustration" is the most accurate
word for it (although likely one of the more polite words for it).

2) Autofill is nice. But, as it seems to apply to Validity lists, (or in
general) you get autofill AFTER having entered in information either manually
or from the list.

Say for exmaple I have the words "Candies" vs "Candies (Assorted)" in a list.

I can't get to "Candies (Assorted)" without having typed it in first even
though it's in the list.

Perhaps an option to use default Autofill or Autofill from the list (or some
way to make a distinction between the two)

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info:
1) Globally Updated List

2) Autofill based on List rather than default Autofill

Note: I entered the Version using Palemoon (older) browser and it bombed EVERY
time based on failure to acknowledge the VERY SPECIFIC version I entered EVERY
time.

I had to re-enter all the info in Google Chrome instead. A royal pain.

Perhaps a disclaimer as to what browsers it does and does not work with might
help.

Skimmed through the meta for validity and none of your suggestions seem to have
been filed before:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/showdependencytree.cgi?id=108988&hide_resolved=1

We take one issue per report, but let's throw this on UX team's table and if
they accept both, you can open a new report for one of them.

Would also be good to verify the behaviour is the same in an up-to-date
version. If packages are a problem for you, you can try an appimage:

I don't understand any of the requests.

Link validity to a list in a cell range. Any change in that range will be
available for validating.
Updating cells that have been filled with validity before.. Nope > Use a
database for that ;)

See my explanation above.

2) Autofill is nice. But, as it seems to apply to Validity lists, (or in
general) you get autofill AFTER having entered in information either
manually or from the list.
menu Tools > AutoInput allows you to turn off 'autofill'
Does that help enough in your case?
Personally I'd rather avoid using Validity in combination with AutoInput.

Cor, please handle this request. Set WFM if you think it makes no sense to
change the workflow.
